Here’s the easy over under
When it comes to betting on sports or other areas where wagers are made, the over under bet is one of the easiest and most popular bets to make. And apparently the only bet that’s more popular is picking winners. According to a source a friend of mine shared with me (because I’m not a gambler, I’m a mom, and that’s gamble enough) this kind of bet is just about final numbers.
My friend described it like this: “When you bet on a total with this kind of bet, you pick whether the total number of points scored by both teams will be over or under the listed total of points to be scored. And the winner or loser of the game doesn’t matter. Just the total number of points scored.
What does all this have to do with you and your business? Well, maybe nothing. But then again, it’s kind of like a description of what I’m talking about in this video about business owner personalities.
The over under, in business, comes down to your personality.
What’s your buying style? I don’t really like labels. But in this case, they’re helpful. Because when it comes to buying style, there are two basic ones. Over buyers. And under buyers.
For example, an over buyer, in the sport of running, might approach it like this. “Wow, I can’t wait to get out there and get started running. But I can’t do it with what I have now. I gotta get those $250 shoes with the special arch supports. And I gotta have that great, new moisture wicking shirt. Oh yeah, the doctor said my eyes need protection. So, I better get that special visor I found online. Yeah, I better get the right gear so I can do this right.”
And then, there’s the under buyer who says, “Hmm…I think my Vans will work. They only have one hole on one side. And this tank shop should work for today. And I know my old baseball cap will keep the sun out of my eyes. Yeah, I’m good to go.”
Neither one is right or wrong.
But it’s important, for you as a business owner, to understand, who you are. Because both ways can cost you time and money.
For example, I tend to lean toward the under buyer profile. And this dates me, but I identify with the old MacGyver style. Give me a stick of gum and a paper clip, and I’ll make it happen. And I’ve been doing that with a laptop I had.
Because the laptop was working fine, but it was S.L.O.W. And I limped along for awhile and then realized it was costing me time and money. About a half hour to an hour a day. So, I invested in a brand new one. And wow! It’s awesome what I can do with that extra half hour to an hour a day.
And on the over buyer side…what are you not getting done because you’re waiting for everything to be just right?
