When I first had my three kids, I suddenly found myself in the middle of the single mom world. My marriage had broken and crumbled. And I had to face some hard truths. Because, I believe the best way to face your problems is head on. You gotta tell yourself the truth. “Deal with reality,” as a friend of mine once said. Because living in a fantasy world only works in movies.
And when you tell yourself the truth, life gets real. Real fast.
For me, the truth was, I didn’t wanna continue to work in the corporate world that would keep me away from my kids. But I had another truth to deal with. If I didn’t keep a J.O.B. I’d have to start my own business. And I had to be sure I could do that AND raise three little kids.
I believed I could. Because I sat down and got a clear picture of myself running a business. And I saw myself taking care of my kids. AND I figured out a System to help me get more organized than I’d ever been before.
So, you could say my business started out as a vision. Because it DID. And I absolutely knew I wanted the freedom my own business would give me. My vision was so clear it played like a movie in my head. Every day. And every night.
But just because that’s what worked for me doesn’t mean that’s what’ll work for you.
So, if you’re struggling with work issues, I recommend you do this, too.
Sit yourself down. In a room where you won’t be distracted. And tell yourself the truth. Not somebody else’s vision for how you should live life. Get a clear vision of what’s true for you.
And if know you won’t follow through in business, then it’s OK to stop trying to be a business owner. Not everyone is cut out for it. Maybe you don’t have the heart of an entrepreneur. It’s OK. Not everyone does. And some people have amazingly successful lives working for someone else.
But most people don’t plan it that way.
And they end up in jobs they hate. In lives of quiet (sometimes not so quiet) suffering. Just barely able to tolerate the monotony. Day in. Day out.
So, here’s the thing…
It takes business owners AND employees to run a successful business.
But you gotta know which one you prefer and which one you’ll be. And then, you gotta be able to see yourself in the role you choose. A wise man once wrote, “Where this is no vision, the people perish.”
So, tell yourself the truth.
Are you the sort of person who wants to work toward your own goals and ideas? Can you put in the extra time each day…day after day…to make sure you reach those goals? Or would you prefer to work a good eight hour day and go home to your family? Like I said, the choice is yours, and either one is an honorable way to go.
