Do you have list lust?
A DeeJay I listen to, on radio, has a program she calls “Lust for Lists.” And she compiles her playlist each day based on a particular theme or topic. It makes her show more cohesive and interesting. At least I think so. And, of course, since I connect everything back to my business (well, maybe not everything, but a whole lot) I started thinking how we humans have sort of a list lust. Or certainly a lot of us do. Are you one of them?
But who suffers from…or enjoys…list lust?
Ok, I’ll be the first to raise my hand. Because it’s so satisfying to check each item off the list. Right? Whether it’s in personal life or business…it makes no difference. When you have a goal you want to accomplish, make a list. In fact, don’t be surprised if just the act of making a list gets you motivated and energized. But how do you start?
Well, I’ll show you by example…
- Think of all of the steps you’ll need to take to achieve your main goal.
- Write them down.
- Arrange them in order of importance.
- Double check to be sure you haven’t forgotten any steps, and
- Start doing them in order so you can check them off.
See what I did there? A simple list. And all I did was put the steps in order for making a list. And a list can be like a tiny motivator. Because it keeps you on track. And it gives you the immediate reward of the checkmark. Think of that as silent, but positive reinforcement. With every checkmark you’re getting closer to what you want.
