Do you really need more reasons to invest in your future? You don’t have to look deep and wide to find someone with a list of reasons for you. And they’re not wrong. But I think there’s one reason that trumps them all.

Invest in your future because it’s comin’ at you either way.

Yeah. Your future’s gonna happen whether you make any plans or not. But here’s a little secret. No charge. Planning is better than not planning. 99 times out of 100.

And, sure, there’s no shortage of seminars, networking get-togethers, and workshops for just about every industry and business you can imagine. So, you won’t have trouble finding one you might even enjoy. Plus, you might even attend one and meet that person who knows exactly what you need to learn.

Of course, you can get nuggets of business wisdom when you join webinars and zoom calls. And certainly YouTube is an almost endless source of business know-how, strategies, and tips. Plus, there are tons of coaches (like me) available for just about any kind of business you’d ever want to start.

But you still gotta MAKE that investment.

Because NONE of that knowledge jumps into your head without at least an investment of your time. And many of those strategies and tips are more valuable when you buy the whole course. Or program. Or the necessary tools. Because snippet videos and “free” introduction materials can only get you just so far.

And I’m sure you want to go so far beyond “just so far.” Right?

If you do an online search, you can discover a lot of songs that talk about life “on the edge.” And something I noticed is how many of those lyrics sound bleak. And even hopeless. Check out these 3 different lines from 3 different songs.

“Hold me, I’m on the edge. And I’m scared of falling, I’m scared. Hold me, I’m on the edge.”

“I’m running on the edge, I’m losing my head, I’m praying I don’t fall If I slip up, I end up dead.”

“So far from myself. I’m on the edge. All my friends. Say I’m living the dream. But I’m still depressed.”

Wow. Is that bleak, or what?

And what makes it so incredibly sad, to me, is those are all lyrics from YOUNG people. Imagine sounding that hopeless at some of the prime time of your life. And imagine having more questions than answers. Or having answers that only echo as sadness or hopelessness in your own head.

Maybe your kids (or some you know) are standing on the edge of the real world.

If so, they have some mighty important questions to answer. In fact, just as they’re about to leave the comfort and security of the home where they grew up, there’s a fork in the road. A crucial decision to make.

Make an uniformed or untrained decision, and end up sounding like the people in those lyrics. Or make a decision from a position of a trained brain, full of clarity and confidence, and achieve the life you want.

You don’t have to have a college degree online or in person to be a success in life. Not by a long shot. And, actually, that was always true. But now, in this age of information, it’s truer than ever.

Of course, as I’ve said before, college might actually be necessary for some careers. But I believe most people, who don’t wanna be doctors, engineers, and lawyers, have some great alternatives.

And I don’t mean just how you can get a college degree online.

I think it’s well worth checking online for alternatives to college. And here’s just one suggestion. Get a job. Matter of fact, if you truly don’t wanna work for someone else, get a job.

Yes, on the surface, that last sentence sounds like it contradicts itself. But let me show you what I mean. Especially if you’re looking for college alternatives, and you’re not quite ready to start your own business.

Because a job is a great way to get some experience. And you can be paid as you learn the ropes of an industry or service you’re interested in. Now, that’s what I call a win-win.

A friend of mine shared a story of a young guy who wanted to start his own burger joint. So, that ambitious young guy got jobs in most of the major burger joints. And that includes McDonald’s, Burger King, Dairy Queen. He learned as much as he could. All the way from the back room inventory to the kitchen to the front of the house cleaning.

And remember, he learned all that valuable inside information, about running a burger joint, while he also got paid.

No, that doesn’t mean the only job you can get is flipping burgers.

Although, if you wanna open your own burger joint, like that ambitious young man in the example, then flipping burgers is an awesome job. But these days you might wanna earn as you learn in a more high-tech industry. Makes sense. Right?

But maybe you think, “They’ll want a college degree. So, that shoots down that idea.”

No. Just because a lot of people will tell you those jobs require college degrees, it ain’t necessarily so. In fact, there are some pretty recognizable names and companies who’d hire you without a college degree.

But, if you don’t have college credentials, you better have…

“The skills.”

Next time you do a search for a college degree online do this. Take a little more time to look for companies that hire young, ambitious people with “the skills” those companies needed. Don’t be surprised when you find much more than a few.

But you better have “the skills” they need. And be able to show them that you can create or develop value for them. Show them how they’ll make more money with you than they’ll pay you. Do that, and I bet you get a job.

Then, you can get in there and learn your way around the business. Get so good at it that you can start your own business. And then you hire yourself and hasta la vista JOB.

Mister Three Percenter is probably ahead of you. Right now. Looking over his shoulder and saying, “Try to keep up, if you can. But I bet you won’t be able to. Because I was born with a special power you can only dream about.”

Wow, Mister Three Percenter sounds kind of egotistical. Right?

There’s an old quote attributed to Babe Ruth. He was accused of being a braggart. But he’d just laugh and say, “It ain’t braggin’ if it’s true.”

So, after checking some stats, I guess Mister Three Percenter isn’t so egotistical after all. Because, turns out there’s a trait, that only 3% of kids are born with, and it’s SO valuable in business and in life.

After 20+ years of consulting with clients from all walks of life, I observed this one trait in so few of them. And it almost always separates the successful from the unsuccessful. Keep reading. Because you’re probably in the 97%, just like me.

And for the vast majority of us who aren’t born with this trait, it can be devastating. At least if or when you don’t learn it. In fact, it’s been recorded that 4 out of 10 college students graduate WITHOUT having learned this one high-profit skill set.

However, the good news is you can learn it.

YOU, or your son or daughter “can be taught.”

And this little known trait is the one common denominator among all of my most successful clients. Every. Single. One. Of. Them.

I’ve observed people like Richard Branson, Warren Buffet, Jeff Bezos, and the late Steve Jobs all share this trait. In case those names aren’t familiar to you, they all fall under that magical billionaire status. At the same time, probably just about every person who doesn’t have (or learn) this trait I keep mentioning is somebody you’ll never hear about.

Because without this special (learnable) trait, your dreams, and goals, and vision are probably gonna end up in the dustbin of history.

A couple of years ago something happened that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. And it really drove home how important it is to find your purpose in life. You DO have a purpose. But YOU control whether or not you’ll find it, develop it, and use it to propel you through life.

For example, two of my son’s friends committed suicide within a two year period. When I found out, I was horrified. Then, I thought about how that could have easily been my son, too. And I know he was deeply affected by the deaths of his friends.

Wouldn’t it be great to jump into your time machine, turn the clock back, and map out all those bumps in the road of life. Well, it might sound good on paper. But there’s a couple of problems with that mode of travel.

First, you’d miss out on the wonders of the journey. I mean, think about it. When you rent a car to go on vacation, you don’t stay home if you see there’s construction on some of the highways. Right? No, you simply go another way.

But sometimes you don’t know about the detours till you get there. Then what? Go home?

No way! You’re on vacation. And, by golly, you’re there to have fun. Right?

Oh, where’s your time machine when you need it?

I know that all sounds a little silly. But here’s the point. Life is full of unexpected surprises and consequences. But you can navigate it so much more easily, when you develop an ability to think clearly under pressure. Think systematically. Turn your “if’s” into “thens.”

If a road is closed, then you take another. And if the weather might change, then pack more clothes. Or if the dates get changed, then make sure your deposits are refundable.

See how well that works? Who needs a time machine? (psst…they’re not real anyway)

And you know what “they” say about change. It’s the only constant thing. Well-known quotes point that out. Like, “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” Or “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” Both of those examples start with “when.” Not if.

OK, I’m sure you catch my drift.

So, I’ll get back to system thinking. And it basically means you have a when for just about every if that comes up in life and business.

Jim Rohn said, “You cannot make progress without making decisions.” Of course, that’s so true it almost seems like it should go without saying. But indecision lacks precision. And my only regret, in my business decision making processes, is that I didn’t start soon enough.

But maybe you’re like many (maybe most) people who don’t live decisively. And maybe it’s because you’re afraid you won’t make the right choices. And maybe you’re not sure if you should start where you are or completely start over. Plus, you fear the consequences of doing the wrong thing. Because that could mean the F word.

Failure.

But here’s an example of how that’s just a fraidy cat notion.

I mentioned Jim Rohn. But maybe you’re not familiar with him. He was a well-known business man and speaker who inspired others like Tony Robbins. He was born into a poor family. But he still became a millionaire by the age of 30. Sounds great, right? But then, he went broke by the age of 33. Uh-oh. Failure.

NOT!

Because Mr. Rohn became a millionaire again. And he did all that in spite of the fact he left college after only one year. Yeah, he didn’t let setbacks stop him. He simply adjusted his decisions based on better information. And then he developed his better system.

So, I hope that helps you see you CAN get control over those feelings of doubt.

AND, I know what I’m talking about.

A few years ago, I decided to take more control of my life. Because I had made some less than desirable decisions. And naturally I got less than desirable results. A while back I shared what I called “a little glimpse into the future.” And I said “technology and opportunity are maybe even better than bread and butter.” Then, I recommended that you check out this quote…

“5G speed. A14 Bionic, the fastest chip in a smartphone. And an edge-to-edge OLED display. Ceramic Shield with four times better drop performance. And Night mode on every camera. And it pushes what’s possible. Like crunching trillions of operations on the Neural Engine. Or shooting in Dolby Vision — even pro movie cameras can’t do that. It’s superefficient for great battery life. And it’s ahead of its time, prepared to power pretty much anything that comes next.”

OK. That little glimpse into the future is now in the past.

That quote came directly from the Apple website. And it described the iPhone 12. But, as you probably already know, the iPhone 14 just came out last month. Yeah. Two generations of iPhones have sprung up since I shared that “glimpse into the future.”

And THAT’S how fast time flies. Especially if you let it just fly right past you.

And, as amazing as that little device you carry around with you, everywhere, is, it’s no replacement for YOU. It can be an awesome “extension of YOU.” But definitely not a replacement.

I use my phone in so many awesome ways. But my favorite way is when I use it to access my integrated RondaReady System. Because my System’s completely mobile ready.
