Net worth isn’t nearly as important as this

I read that, as of yesterday January 17, 2024, his net worth is somewhere around $2.9 billion. And he recently spoke at  an event in Dallas, Texas. He told the audience that when he’s about to start something new, he thinks “less about how much it will cost the company and more about whether or not the idea is strong enough to separate itself from competitors.”

So, a guy with a net worth in the billions appreciates unique ideas.

I read an article that quoted him as saying, “My attitude is Screw it, let’s do it.”

And he’s certainly done enough big things you’ve probably heard of him. Richard Branson. The guy who started Virgin Records, Virgin Airlines, Virgin Hotels, Virgin Galactic, Virgin Atlantic, and Virgin Voyages.

He also tells the people who work for him, “Let’s see if we can create something better than anybody else has done it. And the figures should stack up at the end of the year.”

Ok, you might not aspire to reach billionaire status. But you can’t deny Mr. Branson’s approach seems to work. It’s not 100% fail proof. Nobody can make that claim. But there’s no doubt that for him, at least, the strategy has proved to be a valuable one over and over.

As he put it, “And sometimes we’ve fallen flat on our face, but we’ve always, I think, created something special. So even where things haven’t worked out, we have left our hopefully happy memories and what our team tried. And fortunately, more worked out than not.”

Mr. Branson also talked about branding and “being the best” in your niche.

And that’s all well and good.

But I believe there’s something he didn’t share that’s probably much closer to being the key to his success.

Because “being the best” is fairly subjective. It’s perception. And branding is different for just about everybody. But what all business owners, entrepreneurs, and wannabes have in common is the need to have system for doing it all.

I’m sure Richard Branson’s team has at least a general idea of how they’ll approach and start something new. Because they’ve figured out how to get way pas the startup phase. His successful businesses prove that. They keep on ticking long after he’s moved on to something else.

And that’s because they have a system for success.

I know a thing or two about that. In fact, I wrote my RondaReady System book that shows you how to set up and plug into a personalized system for your unique ideas. And if you’re looking to increase your net worth, I suggest you invest in my book. It’ll cost you much less than Mr. Branson’s audience paid to hear him talk about his success.

AND…

You’ll get a LOT more than just success stories. You’ll get a how-to manual you can use to RUN your business on all cylinders. Just as tons of other businesses that I’ve helped over the years.

Law of diffusion on Memory Lane

Hey, I’ve got a spiffy idea. Let’s talk about Fick’s first law of diffusion today. Sound like fun? Great. Let’s dive in.

I’m sure I don’t have to tell YOU that Fick’s first law relates the diffusive flux to the gradient of the concentration. Right?

And I’m sure this next part of the description will be a walk down memory lane for you:

”It postulates that the flux goes from regions of high concentration to regions of low concentration, with a magnitude that is proportional to the concentration gradient (spatial derivative). Or in simplistic terms the concept that a solute will move from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration across a concentration gradient.”

Wow, that’s a lot of concentration. Kinda difficult to know which part to concentrate on.

But that’s the boring first law of diffusion.

I’d rather talk more about Fick’s second law of diffusion. You remember. The one that “predicts how diffusion causes the concentration to change with respect to time.” Yeah, that’s the one I like. Because it fits my business. And yours.

Let’s say, for example, that your peeps are the concentration you wanna change “with respect to time.” Because, as you well know, time is your most valuable commodity. And your relationship with your peeps (aka: customers, clients, patients, etc.) is your second most valuable.

Now, take a look at these stats for a second. Two percent of sales are made on the first contact. And eighty percent of sales are made after five to twelve points of contact. But typically, only ten percent of sales people make more than three contacts. And yet, statistically, ninety percent of sales are made on the fourth contact or after.

So, most of the concentration (in this case, potential sales) is missed when you forget to apply the business law of diffusion. And you apply that diffusion by setting up a consistent system to follow up with people.

It’s more than a numbers game.

It’s a relationship-building strategy most business owners and wannabes skip. But it sounds like a lot of work. Right? Well, it is. But you know what’s even more work? Not having a system.

Because there’s no way you’ll be able to keep all those contacts in your head. Let alone making at least five points of contact with each one. And remember, most sales people stop after one or two points of contact. So, your competition is practically giving you a bunch of leads and prospects.

I dive into all this (without the scientific talk) a lot more in my RondaReady system book. When you get your own copy of it, you’ll see how to set up your own system to build those relationships and win more referrals. Plus, you might be surprised (and you’ll certainly enjoy) how it can help increase your sphere of influence.

By the way, you can set up your own system for a whole lot less than you might think. But tomorrow is not the time to start. A long time ago would be ideal. But today is the next best time. And the best link to get going is below.

Challenges to overcome before you sleep

Have you ever heard of Peter X. Kelly? If you follow cooking shows or the Food Network, maybe you know who he is. I don’t really follow any of that enough to name names. But Mr. Kelly had some challenges to overcome. And because he toughed it out even though the going was tough, the payoff was pretty big.

At first his age was one of those challenges to overcome.

For example, he was the chef of Highlands Country Club in Garrison, New York at the age of 23. And that was after he had beaten Bobby Flay, in 2006, to become an Iron Chef. I’m sure, if you’re a Bobby Flay fan, you know that was quite an achievement. But even more impressive was that Peter didn’t attend culinary school. He’s self-taught.

And he didn’t stop there. In fact, he eventually opened Xaviars at Piermont. Then he opened his Freelance Cafe & Wine Bar.  X2O Xaviars on Hudson in Yonkers and Restaurant X & Bully Boy Bar in Congers were next.

On the surface it sounds almost ho-hum. Yeah, so-and-so opened a restaurant. Then he opened a couple more. Blah blah blah. And, as anyone who’s ever tried it will tell you, restaurants are risky business. But Peter took the risk and made it pay off. Oh yeah, did I mention? He’s also a wine merchant (aka: vintner) and founder and culinary director of Impromptu Gourmet. It’s a service that delivers (right to your door) chef-inspired foods with real, fresh ingredients.

Just so you know, Peter X. Kelly’s (now you know what the X stands for) businesses generate somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 million in sales per year.

Not a bad neighborhood.

I can’t speak for Peter. But my guess is he has a system that he sticks to. Because pretty much 99.9% of success stories, of just about any kind, are based on somebody finding what works and sticking with it.

That’s why I’m always telling anyone who’ll listen to me or read my articles and emails to get my RondaReady System  book. It really can help you master the fundamentals of business.  And it’s available on Amazon. There’s no guarantee it’ll help you generate $10 million in sales each year. Because I don’t know how much you’ll stick with it.

But I know it can help you face those challenges to overcome with confidence when you follow the System and…

Fundamental fitness where no gym is needed

I wanna talk to you about your fundamental fitness. But I don’t have any exercises, gyms, or diets to share. Before I get to it, I wanna share this little anecdote.

A pro sports coach and his team just lost the game. They’re headed off the field. And somebody walks up to him, with a mic in hand, and asks, “Coach, this is a tough loss. Where do you go from here?” If you’ve watched sports on TV long enough, you’ve heard this kind of answer over and over, “Well, I can say it’s one thing. We really need to get back to the fundamentals.” And in most cases, he’s right. Right?

Same is true for the fundamental fitness of business.

Sports are a great way to watch others who’ve mastered their skills. And sports analogies make great illustrations for running a business. After all, they have a lot of similarities.

Athletes have to develop and master skills. But business owners need to do that, too. Athletes have to see and reach their goals in order to score. And business owners need to reach goals, too. Because achieved goals can lead to profits and prosperity. But what if your business just doesn’t seem to have any fundamental fitness?

First off, don’t beat yourself up about it. Because that doesn’t help.

Quarterbacks have thrown interceptions that led to losing the whole game. Baseball pitchers have lost their starting positions just because they couldn’t pitch enough strikes. But the best quarterbacks and pitchers didn’t quit.

And you shouldn’t give up either, just because you haven’t mastered the fundamentals.

Of course, athletes have a distinct advantage over business owners.

From an early age, they’re taught the fundamentals of the game by their parents, or friends, and eventually coaches.

But who taught YOU the fundamentals of running a successful, sustainable business as you were growing up? And I’m talking about a successful, sustainable business you can enjoy running for years. Maybe even a lifetime. A business that doesn’t run you into the ground from sheer exhaustion. All for a lack of fundamental fitness.

I hope none of that describes you or your dreams and goals.

Because the right system  can help you master the fundamentals of business. As it just so happens, I know of a system like that. It’s my RondaReady System book. And it’s available on Amazon.

Brag about it if you must. But be able to back it up.

Vizzini, the little kidnapper villain in “The Princess Bride,” kept saying, “Inconceivable!” And he thought of himself as brilliant. And he took every opportunity to brag about it. But he had never conceived of the Dread Pirate Roberts being able to thwart and defeat him at every turn.

Yeah, if you’re gonna brag about it, it better be true.

Maybe Vizzini should have come up with a better plan. And maybe a better and clearer vision of the outcome would have avoided so many inconceivable mishaps. But I get it. He was a movie villain. Just following a script. Not real life. But I’m still glad the good guys won.

I said all that to share the idea of concepts with you. And they’re not inconceivable.

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, “What do I want?” And “Why do I want it?”

Answer those 2 key questions, and you’ll be on your way to developing the core concepts of and for your business. Or your dreams and ideas if you’re still in the business planning stage.

Just so you know, I’ve helped scores of business owners and entrepreneurs find their answers to those questions. And I’ve also helped them to realize how coming up with those concepts will give you the vision to keep you on track.

I hope you’re already there in your business.

Or in your plans. But if you’re not, I suggest you get a copy of the RondaReady System book.

I can tell you my System can help you build a six, and even seven figures business better and faster. Or, instead, go to my website, RondaReady.com, and see where lots of other people have shared their thoughts about it.

The good news is…you can get my system and processes for a lot less money than they did. But, don’t brag about it to them. Mum’s the word. Now get Ready to Be Ready, and…

Keep track, Jack, so you can look back

I always say you gotta “write it down”. And I show you how that helps you keep track of your dreams, ideas, and plans. And I also always recommend using your brain for creating instead of storage.

Income goals help you keep track, Jack.

Sorry. I’ve got that old Ray Charles song in my head. You know the one. Where he sings, “Hit the road, Jack. And don’tcha look back no more, no more, no more, no more. OK, now it’ll be in your head, too. You’re welcome.

Let’s see. Where was I? Oh yeah.

In the RondaReady system book I help you create what I call your recovery calendar. It’s a way for you to write down (and map out) your desired time away from your business for the coming year. This is still the first half of January in 2024, so it’s a great time to get this done for this year.

Now, I know there are some Type-A people who disagree that a fully focused and caffeinated business owner needs time away from the business. But, to them, I say, let’s see how healthy most of them are when they get old. Hopefully it’ll be just fine. But many of those business owners don’t live long lives. Or their health suffers a lot.

OK, back to the tracking part.

When you set up and keep track of your income goals, you’ll also see how it helps you plot out your roadmap to success. And what do I always say? If you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know when you get there?

So, in the RondaReady system book, I show you specific and variable ways to figure out your “number.” Then, what comes next? Yep, write that number down. Hmm, seems like there’s a theme forming? And, by the way, written goals have a way of becoming achieved goals.

In the RondaReady system book, I give you a simple formula.

And it’ll even help you work on your projections. The formula talks about gross, net, expenses, and profit margins. You’ll see how to factor in the weeks in your work year. And why that’s so important. And while budgeting isn’t actually a part of my courses or system, I DO help you set things up so you can stay on top of your budget.

It’s not rocket science. But there IS an art and science to it.

And it’s a proven system to help you meet your income goals and avoid burnout. So, use one of the links I’ve included and start your 2024 in the direction YOU plan to keep track of, and…

In your head? Or in a better storage compartment?

Information about Isaac Newton is probably somewhere in your head. Even if you hadn’t thought about him until right this minute after I mentioned him. Remember how he sat in the shade of an apple tree just having a nice day and enjoying the cool breezes?  But what happened next?

Yeah, an apple fell on his head.

And remember how Mr. Newton got so mad, he got up and stomped all the way home?

Yeah, no.

That’s not the story in your head. Right?

Nope. I’m sure you remember how he wrote down his notes about what had happened. And then he formulated his ideas for gravity. And things sort of fell into place after that (pun intended).

Here’s the thing.

If you’re a business owner or any kind of entrepreneur (or wannabe), you’ve got a lot of stuff going on in your head. Ideas. Dreams. Plans. Did I mention great ideas? But if you don’t write it down, don’t be surprised if some or all those ideas disappear as quickly as the steam off your coffee.

Because, if you run a business long enough, you discover you just can’t remember everything.

And it might be in your personality to wanna try. But I suggest you resist that temptation. I know, from experience, when you write it down, your ideas and dreams stick around. And even get more real. Because you can open up your notes and see them any time you like.

Even when you vow to follow through, stress creeps in. Day-to-day tasks pile up. You get too busy. Too tired. And when you least expect it, you “put it off till tomorrow.” Sound familiar?

So what’s a busy business owner to do?

First, don’t keep it in your head.

Then, make a list. But not just any list. Your list should include only the steps, activities, or tasks that get you closer to YOUR goals. I’ve seen business owners 10X their business by following their list and following through.

I know I’ve mentioned this before.

And I hammer home the point to my one-on-one clients. Because I know it works, beyond a shadow of a doubt. When you take the time to write it all down, you can focus more on what’s truly important to you. It’s not magic. But it works like magic. Because then you don’t depend on your brain to remember it all. I like to think of it this way. Your brain is for creation. It’s not just a storage compartment.

My RondaReady system can help with all that storage stuff. It’s a proven system with places you can write down your great ideas, delegate tasks, automate actions, and build your business better and faster.

So, we’re at the start of the second work week of 2024. Do you want it to be just another Monday? If not, get yourself a copy of my RondaReady System Book, get the information in your head, and Get Ready to Be Ready and…

Look up a good reason to look up today

Most people give credit, for the following quote, to Dale Carnegie. And just in case you never heard of him. He was the guy who wrote “How to Win Friends and Influence People.” And he knew what he was talking about. It’s a book still used, after 83 years, to motivate sales people. Because Mr. Carnegie was a pro at motivating people to look up. Here’s the quote:

“Two men looked out from prison bars. One saw mud, the other stars.”

That quote shows how important your perspective is. And you could say the guy who saw mud represents anyone who tends to look down in tough times.

And the guy who saw stars represents those who look up.

But it’s more important to notice how both guys are looking at the same scene from the same place.

OK, let’s say your job or your current way to make a living is like the prison those two guys were in. And you’re staring out a metaphorical window at your current circumstances. Are you gonna look up and figure a way out? Or look down and count yourself out?

Yeah, it really IS that simple. Not easy. Because every day, in business and in life, you’re faced with choices. And every choice can either propel you forward, keep you standing still, or maybe even drive you backward.

So, what are you gonna choose? To be bitter, angry, and depressed? Or eager, inspired, and glad?

And don’t think Dale Carnegie must’ve had some advantages you didn’t have. Because, in fact, he came from a poor family in rural Missouri. Not exactly the business center of the universe. But he didn’t let that hold him back. And your circumstances shouldn’t hold you back either.

You get the same 24 hour days as everybody else. That means you have the same daily time limits as everybody else, too. So, make the choice to look up during your productive hours. See those stars which are opportunities, ideas, and success.

Or look down and find yourself stuck in the mud which is your shortcomings, fears, and failures. Hmm, that somehow doesn’t sound as enjoyable as the first option. Right?

Just so you know, I’ve been there.

So, this isn’t a case of me telling you to do as I say and NOT as I do. I had to choose to look up, too.

And I produced a System to help me get to those “stars” I saw. Then, I decided to share my system with entrepreneurs and business owners who also want to do that. Because I want to help as many as I can save more time, make more money, and have more freedom.

I know, from experience, when you put systems in place, it can change your whole perspective. And you won’t feel like you’re fighting the world all on your own.

If you feel like you’re looking out at the world from behind prison bars, let me help you change that with a proven system. Let me help you build your business better and faster so you can achieve your dreams sooner. I wouldn’t even tell you about it if I wasn’t pretty darn sure I can help.

The first work week of 2024 is already finishing up. Do your dreams feel closer today than Monday? If not, get yourself a copy of my RondaReady System Book and Get Ready to Be Ready and…

Stay Ready,
Ronda

Drilling holes in your boat is actually a bad idea

This is one of my absolute favorite quotes. “Make sure everyone in your boat is rowing and not drilling holes when you’re not looking.” I don’t remember who said it first. But you’ll probably see me (or hear me) use it again and again. Because owning a business can sometimes feel like you’re rowing upstream. And you certainly don’t need the added headaches of someone drilling holes in your boat. Right?

But who would be drilling holes in your boat?

Well, doubters. And they’re everywhere. Sure as the sun is yellow. Or is it really some other color and we’ve just been trained, through our culture, to believe it’s yellow. See? That’s how doubters try to sneak into your brain. So, here’s what you do. Send your doubters somewhere else. Because you’ve got work to do.

It takes a lot of courage to own (and run) your own business. And that means the only people you need around, on a regular basis, are the ones who will support you.

Naturally they don’t have to be as passionate about your business as you. After all, who would be? But they DO need the skills and willingness to stick by you through thick and thin. And they should be there to listen and encourage.

You had the idea. And you brought it to life. And you nurture it so it’ll grow. Because you want it to be able to stand on its own two feet. And make something of itself. Right? Of course!

But then, along come the doubters.

The ones who, when the seas get a little rough, are ready to give up. And since they refuse to go on, they want you to give up, too. After all, what if you succeed and make them look bad for doubting? But you refuse to quit. So, they start drilling holes in your boat.

Doubters don’t see how your business is a part of you. They just see it as an idea you try as long as everything is easy. And they don’t wanna hear the old saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”

They just wanna let go. And get you to let go, too.

I remember talking about all this with one of my clients. The business owner’s wife doesn’t understand his passion for building his business. And her doubts slow down his productivity and success. A lot! Because he’s torn between consistently explaining his efforts to her and focusing on day-to-day business chores.

That’s part of why it’s so important to build your business to be more independent and self sufficient. Then it won’t consume you and your time. And you won’t be accidentally drilling holes in your own boat. Plus, it’ll chew up the doubters and spit ‘em out.

And you set yourself up that way with a proven system. It’s basically the only way you’ll build your business better and faster. And you know what that means? More time with those closest to you.

I don’t doubt it a bit.

So, get yourself a copy of my RondaReady System Book and Get Ready to Be Ready and…

Stay Ready,
Ronda

Tuesday morning 2024 and all’s good so far

It’s Tuesday morning. And if you’re like most people it feels like the first day of your week. Right? Because yesterday was the first day of the year. But it was a Monday. And nobody likes Mondays. So why start off a year with one.

Poor Monday. It can’t help where it is on your calendar. And it’s not like a Monday ever physically punched somebody in the face. Because days of the week don’t have magical powers. And days don’t have any power over us humans. Unless we give it to them. Right?

And this Tuesday morning of the year shouldn’t be any different.

Even if it’s taking the place of Monday as the first work day of a brand new year.

And I can tell you there’s no dark cloud over my first Monday. Oops, I mean Tuesday.

Because, years ago, I decided to set up the infrastructure for my business. And that’s just a fancy shmancy word for “System.” I read an article from a well-known business blogger, Seth Godin, about infrastructure. And he ended the article with a quotable sentence.

“We need to plant our trees before we want the shade, and fix our systems before they break.”

So, that’s what I mean about what I did years ago. I planted those trees for my business. And now I’m enjoying quite a bit of shade. Because those “trees” have lots of “leaves” (aka automation and delegation). And because I took the time to set it up I don’t have to take that time every day.

But when you first start up a business to build your dreams, it can seem like so much work you’ll never get it done. And that’s what separates winners from losers. Winners understand how an upfront time investment means a big time payoff, eventually.

But that word “eventually” is where losers drop out. Because eventually isn’t today. And so many people (even entrepreneurs and business owners) want success right now.

But that’s not YOU. Right?

YOU don’t want the quick fix. You don’t need that adrenaline rush of marketing gurus and their “get paid to do nothing” promises. Or let’s say, if you do, my RondaReady system is definitely not for you.

But if you want to “plant trees” that’ll eventually give you tons of shade, you won’t find a better system in the universe. Yes, I’m biased. But it’s true. Because only MY system includes ME.

Get a copy of my RondaReady System Book. If you did something in this book, every day for the next year, it would cost you about 33 cents a day. And the information can pay you back so many times you might feel like your long lost rich great-uncle died and left you lots of moolah. So, the sooner you start the sooner you can get that feeling.
