Type A personality deals with shocktober

I know your Type A personality has you all fired up for this first Monday of October. Right? And you’re focused on how much work you’re gonna get done this week. To-do lists all filled in. Computer plugged in and online. Phone is synced up to the computer. WiFi is HiFi and rockin’. Let’s do this!

Hold on! Simmer that Type A personality down a second or two.

Not that there’ anything particularly wrong with being all fired up. In fact, if you’ve got some momentum and things are going well, and you just plain love the work, go for it. But I like to encourage business owners and entrepreneurs, like you, to be sure you still see a clear picture of where you wanna go.

Yeah, I understand what it’s like to get in the groove and not want to stop. Especially when you’re trying to build your business. And when you work to get more out of life. But I still encourage you to check in with your main goal this week. Because if you DO need to change who you talk to and connect with, you’ll also need to be sure you can create good leads and convert them into prospects.

Thinking about it is a good place to start. Or bad.

I know you’re thinking about it. Probably at least a little bit every day. And I know you are because how could you not? After all, it’s coming whether you want it to or not.

Yeah, it’s the future. And you’re thinking about it now, for sure. Right?

There’s nothing wrong with thinking about it. But don’t move in and build your world in the future. Because a lot of the time you’ll get a roommate you don’t want. Mister Dread.

And the only thing as bad as that, or maybe worse, is living in the past. Because that’s when you might have to suffer with another roommate you don’t want. Mister Regret.

(for the sake of fairness and equity, your roommates could be Ms Dread or Ms Regret, too)

So, I think you get the point. There’s no time like the present to take care of business. Because right now is the ONLY time you can do anything about it. Whatever you do today can’t be done yesterday or tomorrow. And even if you’re thinking about something, today, that you thought about yesterday, your action steps can ONLY happen today.

OK, I think I’ve beaten that dead horse enough. And here’s what I’m gonna share today. It’s the same thing I shared yesterday and that I’ll share tomorrow. But today is the ONLY time you can take action on it, even though the deadline is tomorrow.

Better and faster isn't just for planes, trains, and cars

What do planes, trains, and automobiles have in common? And I mean besides all of them being a method of transportation. OK, for the sake of getting to the point, we like them more when they’re better and faster. Right? And that’s because it’s a fast-paced world. So, you gotta keep up.

Better and faster isn’t just for transportation.

For example, I’m sure you’re aware that the latest iPhone is out now. The iPhone 15 is Apple’s fastest personal device yet. And a friend of mine, who owns a MacBook, said he just upgraded his computer to the brand new operating system just released. Of course, it’s better and faster than ever.

It only makes sense. After all, if you can get things done faster, AND you have a better way to do that, then, by all means, don’t hold back.

And that includes building a successful business. One of the best ways you can do that better and faster is to understand how to get leads and turn them into prospects. There’s not only one specific way to do that. But there ARE some things you can focus on to make it easier on yourself.

Lead to prospect on the journey down the funnel

You’ve got dreams. And you might even have goals and plans to go get those dreams. I hope you do. Because, otherwise, why even get out of bed in the morning? Right? And dreams are never just solo. It takes other people (usually lots of them) to get what you want. That’s why so many business advisors and consultants talk about the lead to prospect funnel.

Lead to prospect doesn’t sound sexy.

And that’s why so many eyes glaze over when you start talking about invisible funnels and how to move a lead to a prospect. Because that kind of talk blurs your vision. But you shouldn’t let it.

Here’s a great description of the difference between a lead and prospect I found online:

“A lead is a top of the funnel, unqualified contact. Leads have typically expressed some level of interest in your product or offering, but have not been qualified to determine if they fit the ideal buyer persona or would benefit from using the product. A prospect is a contact who has been qualified as an ideal customer who would consider buying.”

Yeah, that’s it in a nutshell.

Undead army with the most bang for your buck

So. It’s a real thing. The undead army. And according to an ad I ran across it’s “a large collection of undead-themed miniatures for use in tabletop wargaming.” If you have younger kids, maybe you’re familiar with this stuff. But I didn’t know about tabletop wargaming until now. Can’t say I missed anything. But, anyway.

It all gets pretty complex. “The army includes a range of different units.”

You get skeleton warriors, zombies, wraiths, and revenants. And the ad I saw said the “figures are made from high-quality plastic and come unpainted, allowing you to customize and personalize your army as you see fit.” The kit I saw comes “with over 130 miniatures included.” But why stop there? Right?

Because the kid also “provides a substantial foundation for building an undead army for use in games like Warhammer Age of Sigmar or Kings of War.” Yeah, I bet you’ll need the largest undead army possible.

Believe me when I tell you I don’t share links where you can go get the undead army miniatures. But it looks like if it’s a big deal to you, the “Undead Mega Army offers a considerable amount of bang for your buck.” It’s the same story as TV, phone, or cable services. Buy the package and save.

So, I guess if you’re into tabletop wargaming, and you’re a hobbyist or gamer looking for an “extensive range of high-quality figures and great value for the money, the Undead Mega Army from Wayland Games is definitely worth considering.”

But if you’re a business owner or entrepreneur, looking for help to build and run your business better and faster, then UNversity is great value for the money.

Yom Kippur?
I don't even know how to say it.

I’m not a Jew. And I don’t play one on TV or YouTube. But I just noticed, on my calendar app, that today is Yom Kippur. So, do you wish someone who’s a Jew a Happy Yom Kippur? Seriously. I don’t know if they think of it that way or not. Yeah, since I’m not a Jew, I had to look up what that’s all about. Here’s what I found:

“Yom Kippur is the holiest day in Judaism and Samaritanism.

It occurs annually on the 10th of Tishrei, corresponding to a date in September or early October. Primarily centered on atonement and repentance, the day’s main observances consist of full fasting and ascetic behavior accompanied by long prayer services in synagogue.”

OK, I’m not getting all religious with you today. I just find it interesting how long the actual “practicing” Jews have remained dedicated to their faith. Thousands of years. Wow. That means they’ve been going through that “full fasting and ascetic behavior accompanied by long prayer services in synagogue” for a long time.

That’s some serious dedication.

And it’s the kind of dedication successful business owners have. Well, except for the fasting and other stuff. But you see what I mean. Right?

The main thing is the stick-to-it commitment.

And that sort of commitment to your business, dreams, and goals includes ongoing learning. That’s where my (very affordable) UNversity comes in.

Reduce stress, own a business. Uh, is that right?

OK, here’s a quick tip for how to reduce stress. You can thank me later. And you might kick yourself for not thinking of it, yourself. Are you ready? Here it is. Own a business.

What?! Did she just say you can own a business to reduce stress?

Well, to be clear, no. I didn’t say that. Owning a business doesn’t reduce stress. In fact, your stress levels might increase if and when you decide to become a business owner. But not all stress is bad. And there ARE some great ways to reduce it and keep it SO much more manageable. As this client of mine did:

“For 12 months, we met on a regular basis to discuss, plan and execute our ideas. She took us from an empty 3 ring binder to a binder full of business processes, plans, and training that we can use to continue with our growth. And we began to understand, very quickly, that running a business is not as easy as it seems to be.”

Yeah, my client was talking about how he and his team discovered tons of time and stress-saving benefits of working his business with a System.

Here’s what else he said about running a business that way…

“But, if you spend the time with Ronda to develop a plan on how you want your business to run, you will see your work at the end of the 12 months come to fruition. And you know have a plan that you can take and grow with.

So, I learned really fast that this ‘development’ is almost, if not, more important than actually doing ‘jobs’ to bring in money. Why? Because anyone can go out and perform labor. Fire HD 10 sounds like an emergency call

If you’re not into techy stuff, you might not be interested in what I’m talkin’ about today. But I think it’s pretty cool what you can do with technology. Especially when it comes to soaking in information. And that leads me to the Fire HD 10. Yeah, NOW I’ve got your attention. Right?

Just kidding. You’re probably NOT excited about the Fire HD 10.

And why would you be? It’s not the glamour child in the world of tablets and pads. In fact, I just read a review that said, “the Fire HD 10 isn’t the best tablet you’re ever going to use. Not even close. But it is cheap, decently powerful, and good enough for many of us.”

Not exactly a glowing endorsement. But if you don’t need a tablet to run your business or design your graphics or edit your movies, then it might be a viable option for you.

And the review I read said it’s not a totally wimpy tablet. It talked about how “Amazon is positioning the Fire HD 10 as a device you can get real work done on.”

And it continued with…

“Surprisingly, this turns out to be true as long as you don’t need to use Google apps. The Fire HD 10 is still hamstrung by Amazon’s Fire OS, which doesn’t have the bevy of apps you’ll find on Google’s Play Store. Still, with a keyboard and slightly better screen, the new Fire HD 10 is something like a netbook, a small, cheap, capable, go-anywhere device.”

I saw the top version of it on Amazon for about $180. And that’s about one-tenth the amount of an iPad Pro with all the trimmings. So, if you’re on a tight budget, it sounds like Amazon’s got your tablet.

I’m not trying to sell you one.

And I’m not an affiliate for any of those tablets. But I thought it was worthing sharing with you. Because one thing I KNOW the Fire HD 10 can do well is be your device for reading books. The battery life is about 12 hours, unless you’re watching movies. And you’ll be reading books on Amazon’s Kindle platform. So, that makes the whole buying and reading process pretty seamless and easy.

Your story matters. But how do you you tell it?

You’re a human being. Right? Of course you are. And as a human being on this little planet spinning around the sun, you create stories. Because you can’t live life without doing that. But what you might not realize, enough, is that your story matters. Especially if you hope to take part in the economy.

Your story matters to people who need or want what you offer.

Because they prefer to buy from, listen to, or work with people they can relate to. Wanna create and produce how-to videos? Your video story matters. Wanna sell fruits and vegetables in a country market? Your farming story matters. Even if you just wanna be an affiliate marketer, your marketing story matters.

Win big even though you're a big ol' loser

You’re such a loser. Well, not really. But, yeah, kinda really. But don’t take it personally. So am I. And so is everybody else. Because there’s no such thing as a full-time winner. And when you find out that even losers can win big, it’s not such an awful thing to be after all.

One guy wrote a book about how to lose and win big.

I just read some interesting stuff about his humorous take on “flops, setbacks, and disappointments.” And this guy I’m talking about is Scott Adams. Ring a bell? No?

Maybe you’ve heard of the comic strip, “Dilbert.”

If so, then it’s starting to make more sense. Right? Yeah, Dilbert is the classic underdog. And you can learn a lot from that little guy who can’t even get his tie to lay down properly.

And Scott Adams, Dilbert’s creator, said some funny and interesting things about his own life that sort of give you an idea where he got his comic strip character. In his book he shares insights like…

  • Conquer shyness by being a huge phony (in a good way)
  • The most important metric to track is your personal energy, and
  • (my personal favorite) Goals are for losers. Systems are for winners.

Now, I believe it’s important to know where you wanna go. Otherwise, how will you know when you get there? And some might file that under the “goals” category. But I get what Scott means. Because your goals can change because of a lot of factors. But a proven System doesn’t need to change.

Scott also explained how he was able to “transform losses into lessons.”

That skill is absolutely essential. If you wanna win big, you’ve gotta be able to learn from your mistakes. And I personally believe mistakes aren’t failures. Because you only truly fail when you quit. But I also understand why so many people consider a flop, or setback, or disappointment to be some sort of failure. As Scott put it…

“Failure always brings something valuable with it. I don’t let it leave until I extract that value.”

Yes. Learn as much as you possibly can from your mistakes. But here’s something that can maybe help you a whole lot more:

Learn as much as you can from other people’s mistakes.

Hmm, that reminds me of a System book. A book that helps you learn from…uh…MY mistakes. Or rather, it helps you avoid a lot of the “flops, setbacks, and disappointments” I went through before I wrote it.
