Making mistakes is just part of your job description

Who’s afraid of the big, bad wolf? No, wait. That’s one of the Grimm’s Brothers’ fairy tales. Here’s what I meant to ask. Who’s afraid of making mistakes? I hope it’s not you. Because if you think you can run a business and not make mistakes, then you’re living in your own fairy tale.

Making mistakes is just part of the journey.

Because you can’t avoid trouble. At least not ALL trouble. And you can’t avoid the challenges of business if you’re gonna BE a business owner. It’s just not possible.

That being said…it’s pretty normal to want to avoid making mistakes. Especially when your life and maybe even other lives in your household depend on how well you do each day. But check out these lyrics from Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders that I shared a couple of years ago.

“Look around the room, life is unkind
We fall but we keep getting up
Over and over and over”

Did you catch that?

You gotta “keep getting up over and over and over” again. Because today won’t be exactly like yesterday. And tomorrow won’t be exactly like today.

I’d like to tell you your business won’t have its ups and downs. But I prefer not to blow smoke in your eyes.

And I wish I could tell you everything will be rosy if you follow a tried and true system (mine preferably).

But, just as in life, troubles and mistakes are actually part of business. And the most successful business owners and entrepreneurs are the ones who don’t let mistakes and troubles stop or define them. Yeah, success means you keep getting up over and over and over.

Good news is…the right System can help you avoid WAY more of those trouble and mistakes. Naturally, I believe my RondaReady System IS that right one. But I only believe that because I’ve seen lots and lots of businesses go from 5 figures to 6. And from 6 figures to 7.

If you’re Ready to finally make a serious commitment to YOU and your business, your link is below. Join today, and I’ll show you how to Get Ready, Be Ready, and…

Stay Ready,

Successful business leaders don't build a plane on the way down

“An entrepreneur is someone who jumps off a cliff and builds a plane on the way down.” I like that quote from Reid Hoffman. Because it definitely describes a lot (maybe most) entrepreneurs. But it doesn’t describe most successful business leaders.

Because successful leaders develop systems.

And I’m not talkin’ just operating systems for computers, as from Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, etc.

I mean systems to eliminate as much risk as possible. And systems to streamline workflows as much as possible. From Henry Ford, with his assembly line, to Jeff Bezos and his Amazon online network, successful business leaders leave as little to chance as possible.

Sure, risk is still involved. Because there’s always risk when you run with your ideas. But the difference between calculated risks and throw-caution-to-the-wind risks is like the difference between day and night.

Why did you decide to start and own a business? If you’re like most business owners, it’s probably because you’d rather not work a typical 9-5 corporate job. Right? And you’d rather work on your own dreams and ideas instead of making someone else’s dreams and ideas come true. Right?

Right!

Think about this: If you’re not moving forward, you’re going backward.

Because the reality is, there’s no standing still. Just because you stop moving doesn’t mean everybody else does. Your competitors hope you stop moving while they build their forward momentum. And that’s the same as rolling backwards.

But I hope you don’t believe that just because you wanna take a business to “the next level” it means you’ll have way more work. And a lot less time of your own. That’s only true when you don’t build it the right way.

And that’s why I built the RondaReady System. So you can get those counterproductive and negative thoughts out of your head. So you don’t have to start from scratch. And so you can follow a proven system that can help you become another one of those successful business leaders. Better and faster.

With the RondaReady System you’ll build your business like a farmer. Because farmers HAVE to plan and anticipate. They can’t just do things last minute. If a farmer flies by the seat of his pants, so to speak, there might not be food on the table.

And business leadership is the same way.

But I could go on and on about how my System has helped scores of business owners go from 5 figures businesses to 6 figures…or 6 figures to 7. And I might impress you with some dollar signs.

Or you might be skeptical because you don’t know me. If so, that’s only natural. I’d be that way, too. And if that IS the case, then I recommend you get my free daily emails. Get to know me. The link to join is below. And see how I truly do wanna help you systemize so you can Get Ready, Be Ready, and…

Too big to fail doesn't mean what you think it means

I hope you don’t ever, ever, ever think you or your business is too big to fail. And not only because there are scores of examples where that proved to be wrong. But also because I your life (and business) will be better off when you realize no business is immune to failure.

Sears was too big to fail.

So was Montgomery Ward. And K-mart. And so on and so on.

Even Amazon, according to its owner, could fail. Gasp! Say it isn’t so! But it is. Because, like the old saying goes, “The only thing constant in this world…is change.”

And that’s why I encourage even my most seasoned, experienced clients to set up a business operations manual. I remember a business owner, a few years back, who told me his business was too big to set one up.

Uh-oh. There’s that “too big” stuff again.

And I remember talking with him about how he could take some time, right then, to create a repeatable system he could automate. Plus, he could use the system to delegate. Or, he could repeat himself, over and over again, after every new hire or policy change.

Plus, I explained to him how he has much more important things to do. But, unlike me, he didn’t consider a proven system to be a great business investment.

It weird how so many business owners put their money and faith in insurance products to help through tough times. But they don’t simply invest in their own business. And that’s how they can make sure it can run without ’em.

Sure, you can invest in stocks and commodities. But don’t fool yourself into thinking those investments will help your business make money when you’re not around.

And I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating. Don’t expect somebody else to build your financial future? Invest some up-front time and build a future you can share with employees, family, and friends.

If you’re ready to invest in your business (which is an investment in your life), get my RondaReady online business coach CRM system. But if you’re still on the fence, at least sign up for my daily, free emails and find out how much I want you to succeed and…

First job at 25 cents a day

Aaron Montgomery dropped out of school when he was only 14. Because he had to start working to help support his parents and siblings. And his first job, in a factory, paid a whopping 25 cents a day. So, you’re probably thinking this definitely wasn’t recent. And you’re definitely right.

Imagine a first job at even ten times that much per day.

It still wouldn’t be a job you’d want to apply for, right? Yeah, me neither.

But let’s get back to Aaron.

After jumping around jobs, he was hired to manage a dry goods store (there’s a hint). And they sent him out into the rural areas to see if he could get more customers. Turned out, he was pretty good at it.

Then he moved to Chicago and joined a big (at the time) merchandising company. Field, Palmer, and Leither. Yeah, I’ve never heard of ’em either. But no big deal. Because Aaron only stuck around there for two years. Then he worked for Wills, Greg, and Co for another two years. And, as it turned out, he kept getting sent out into the rural areas.

During his time in the small towns and countryside, he dealt with the locals and their biggest complaint. High prices from those companies where he worked.

So, Aaron looked for a way to cut out the “middle men” and lower prices for those nice people. But apparently friends and relatives thought he was crazy for even trying. But he bought some “goods” and started to work on his idea.

Then, a little something you might have heard of, The Great Fire of Chicago, happened. And Aaron’s investment was burned up like so many others.

Most people would probably think it was a sign.

And most would probably give up. But not Aaron. He came up with $1600 (and a couple of partners) and re-established his new mail-order business. And he had a snazzy catalogue printed up and distributed it. Especially to rural areas. After a year, the partners left. But his brother-in-law wanted in and was willing to invest another $500 to become a partner.

Wow, talk about a good move by that brother-in-law.

Because their company went on to become one of the most successful businesses ever. And at the time of his death, Aaron Montgomery saw sales around $40 million. Considering that was 1913, in today’s dollars, he would have been worth over a billion. Not bad.

Oh…by the way…Aaron Montgomery’s last name was Ward. And his company was Montgomery Ward. The company went out of business in 2001. But they have an online only version now.

Anyway, the moral of the story is this. Just because you start out your working life in a job doesn’t mean you can’t eventually have a hugely successful business. In fact, a job might actually open your eyes and mind to possibilities.

And I talk about that in the RondaReady YOUniversity course. If you’re starting out in the workforce, or if you know someone who is, this course can help make the whole process a lot more clear. And you won’t believe how affordable it is.

One day away, and everything falls apart?

If you’re a business owner without a proven system you can trust, you probably know how even one day away from your business can flip everything on its head. Right? (And I hope you can’t relate to that because you’re plugged into a good system)

Yeah, one day away from business can wreak havoc.

I’ll bet there have been as many headaches from a day off as there have been days. And that’s just a guess, on my part. But I’m thinking about a business owner I talked to, a couple of years ago, who had the “day off headaches.”

Bob (and that’s not his real name) built a booming business and made his dream come true. But then the headaches started. Because Bob’s business required (you could almost say “demanded”) him to be on the job (uh-oh, there’s that three letter word) almost every minute of every day.

So, Bob said he never even had “time for a fun game of golf” anymore.

Yeah, his business definitely owned him. Something I’m always working to help my clients avoid.

And I only changed the name. The story is true. Way too true for way too many dream chasers and risk takers.

A friend of mine told me, this morning, how he dropped off some shipping at the post office today. And he said the postal worker told him how incredibly hectic the day before had been. Because that was the day after Labor Day. And that was one of those Mondays off even business owners take. But then, they come back to Tuesday, and everything feels like it quadrupled on them.

But never fear.

Because there are some simple (even if they’re not easy) tools you can use to avoid those kinds of headaches. And I’m talking about tools that’ll make sure your business won’t crumble any time you decide to take a day off. It’s like taking the most effective aspirin with no stomach problems.

But if you prefer stress-filled days and the headaches that go with them, then you absolutely don’t need these tools. And if you’re happy when you fill your week up with busy-ness and worry, then, you certainly don’t need my help. Or anybody else’s.

Sure, I could tell you that’s a recipe for disaster. But your head will hurt too much to hear me.

Believe in it, even if it's not true yet. Your dream, that is.

You know who Academy Award winner, Robert Duvall, is. Right? Well, he was in a movie, a few years ago, called “Secondhand Lions.” In one scene, his character tells his nephew, “If you wanna believe in something, believe in it. Just because something isn’t true doesn’t mean you can’t believe in it.”

Do you have a vision for your life? And do you believe in it?

I talked about this a couple of years ago. But it’s even truer now than it was then.

Just because something isn’t part of your current reality doesn’t mean it never will be. Or ever could be. And the vision you put in your own head (yes, you DO put it there, it doesn’t magically happen) helps you change a dream into something real.

Because your mind is a powerful force. And I’m not talking about some Marvel comic book power either. I mean your mind can influence what you do. And when you get a clear vision of where you wanna go or be, you’re most of the way to making it happen.

Yeah, your thoughts can have great power over your actions. And your actions can conquer fear. Good news is, you get to choose which way they’ll go.

But the sad new is…most people don’t know how to turn it all around.

This isn’t something you learn in school.

Well, not regular school anyway. No, it’s gonna take a school where you can learn to system think. And avoid the hamster wheel of random thinking. And since most people aren’t born with the natural ability to system think, most people don’t end up living up to the vision they have for their lives. For that matter, they don’t even go in that direction. And they certainly don’t pass it on down to their kids.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Because, even though you don’t learn this in regular school, like I said, you CAN easily learn it in RondaReady YOUniversity. It’s a very affordable course I developed to help YOU system think. And to help YOU get off that hamster wheel and hit the superhighway…headed for your dreams.

Your lifeboat cruises even better with a good first mate

I talk about “your lifeboat” in my RondaReady System client meetings, and in my System book. It’s a metaphor about staying afloat in your business life. And like any good ship’s captain, you’ll do much better with a first mate. Because you’ll have two heads, four eyes, and four ears working on your business. Huge Advantage!

I talk more about your lifeboat in the free Blueprint for Success

You can get that when you sign up for my free daily emails. The link is below. And here’s a clip from the lifeboat part of the Blueprint…

“So you’ve made sure you’re good to go on materials and setup, yes? If not, I encourage you to complete that part. If so, Great!

It’s important to know who’s in your life boat with you on this adventure.  A good support system can make all the difference in the world. Because those close to you should have a clear understanding of what it takes to build a sustainable business. They need to realize that, for a while, you’ll be working hard IN your business as well as ON it. There’ll be much less one-on-one time or family time. It’s difficult enough to stay on track in a busy world. So ask your loved ones to understand and show some encouragement to help you stay focused.

If you’re an entrepreneur with a spouse or significant other, it’s super critical they “get you” and how important your business is to you.

They need to be a help, not a hinderance.

Think about the buddy system. It’s a great way to “divide and conquer”. With the buddy system the entrepreneur can continue to work IN the business. And the e-spouse (a name I like to use) takes the lead with the System and works ON the business. And, as a dynamic duo, you complete the follow-through together.

E-spouse gathers information from the E and puts it all together. I can’t stress, enough, all the incredible value in this kind of teamwork. Remember, you’re building your future. Why would anyone want to stay on the sidelines when you can help double, triple, or quadruple the pace for building the business foundation?

Businesses are like buildings. If the foundation is weak, the structure will never be stable. And that’s a recipe for the walls to come tumbling down. But that won’t happen to you when you’re determined to be an awesome business-building team! So, everyone get on board.

If you are not coupled up, no worries! If you can afford it, get an assistant or even a virtual assistant to help you. And if you’re a solo cat, that’s fantastic, too!

I’ve done it solo. And so have thousands of others. I’m just saying it’s nice if you do have someone you can add to your team. The RondaReady system is about learning, creating, and taking action. More hands and minds speed up the process and results.

Refer a friend especially if they do good stuff

I recently signed up for a new service online. And before I had even completed the form I got a pesky popup. It showed me how easy it would be to refer a friend. Wow, talk about putting the cart before the horse. Yeah, before I had a chance to check out their service for myself, they wanted me to tell my friends about ’em.

Apparently their company had skipped refer a friend 101 class.

And what’s refer a friend 101? Simple. Build a relationship. But not just any kind of relationship. One that works. One that does good things for both sides. You know what I mean. I know you do because you have friends. And business relationships should work like relationships between friends. Everybody looking out for each other.

Serve well.

And serve well through time. Not just during the time when somebody’s handing you money or writing a check or plopping down their credit card. Because meaningful relationships are built over time. And they’re not just about the good times.

For example, how many times have you been let down by a customer service call? Plenty, right? Yeah, it seems like very few companies (especially when they get a little “big for their britches”) know how to provide more than minimally adequate customer service. And yet, they’d like you to refer others to them.

Do you think people would refer you and/or your products and services if you put them on hold every time they called? Not likely. I know I certainly wouldn’t.

But when you take the time to go the extra mile and serve others with more than the bare minimum, they tend to remember it. And they tend to refer their friends, family members, and other business acquaintances.

I talked about that in my monthly UNversity class earlier today.

And I shared some ways to build those good and lasting relationships. Not just the what. But also the how-to. And that’s what I do each month. If you’re not sure you’d like to enroll in the $15 monthly coaching classes, at least sign up for my free daily emails. Get to know me better. And discover how I truly DO wanna help you Get Ready, Be Ready, and…

Too late to the party

What do they say to you when everybody else knows about something way before you. Oh yeah, they say something like “you’re too late to the party.” And, if you didn’t sign up for this month’s UNversity class, by the deadline yesterday, that’ll be you tomorrow. Because that’s when the class is.

Hope you’re not too late to the party for referrals.

Because you gotta develop your referral marketing strategy. And build relationships with those people who are likely to recommend your products or services. But how do you do that AND maintain a network of people who are willing to, in effect, act as your sales force?

Well, it’s for sure you can’t just get your contacts into your CRM system and categorize them. That’s important. But it’s just the start.

And you can’t just put together your lead to prospect strategies. Sure, that’s crucial. But it’s still just the start.

You can even go into your CRM system and set up to-do plans, action sets, and deal stages. Those are essential to helping you automate and run your business more efficiently. But you’d still be missing the boat for referrals.

But you know who’s not missing the boat on how to get more referrals and repeat business? Anybody who signed up for September’s monthly UNversity class…which is tomorrow, September 2. Yeah, people enrolled in UNversity will be sitting in on a how-to video where I personally share some awesome tips for getting the referrals you need and deserve.

If you won’t be there, I’m sorry. But I encourage you not to miss out on next month’s UNversity class. I’ll be sharing some more business-building tips and strategies. And I’m not gonna say what they are right now. But you can bet they’ll be what I’ve used to help business owners increase from 5 figures incomes to 6 figures. And from 6 figures incomes to 7.

If you wanna be notified when and what that’ll be, sign up for my free daily emails. The link is below.
