The proof is in the pudding

A couple of days ago I was talking with a new client. And he told me he referred me to another business owner. Of course, they asked why he referred me and not another coach…since my new client just started working with me. And his answer was because he had seen what my system did for his friend, yet another client of mine. Some would say that’s a case of the proof is in the pudding.

Yeah, the proof is in the pudding and only your bank account will gain weight.

I mean, think about it. Everywhere you look, people are desperately trying to find the shortcut to success. So, I have good news and bad news for you. The bad news is, there’s no real shortcut. The good news is…

You’d be bored out of your gourd if you actually found the shortcut to success.


We humans need to work. We NEED something to occupy our brains and keep us focused and interested. And guess what? That’s what WORK does. Yes,…work. Those “small efforts, repeated day-in and day out.”<

Think about this for a second. Have you ever had a day when you didn’t have something to do? Yes? And what did you say? I’m bored. So, you figured out something to do, even if it wasn’t productive. And you DID it. Then, at the very least, you weren’t bored.

Well, when you make the decision to be successful, you’ll find the right projects, or products, or services, or information to work on. And you’ll start those small efforts and keep doing them until they produce bigger and bigger results. Then, one day, you’ll discover you’re successful.

Maybe it’s not as glamorous as being discovered by Hollywood. Or as glorious as winning the Powerball. But building success from the ground up has much better and longer lasting consequences. Then, it’s yours. You built it. You own it. And nobody can ever take that away. Efficient business systems save energy

How can you tell when something’s efficient? You know who’s good at measuring efficiency? Utility companies. Because they have tried and true methods and systems to rate you and me and our neighbors. And they see how much energy we all use over time. Then, they give suggestions for how to reduce monthly bills. And they share tips on how to not lose heat in the winter. And how to stay cooler in the summer. They have efficient business systems to save them a lot of manpower energy. Then, they provide suggestions to help us save energy, too.

And it’s the same for you.

Does your business pipeline need a lifeline?

As a business owner you basically have three main ways to fill your business pipeline. And we all know if you don’t have a full pipeline, your business isn’t gonna be around too long. Right?

Your business pipeline shouldn’t give you a case of white knuckles.

It’s no fun wondering where your next customer or client is coming from. Even the most seasoned business owners know what that feels like. So, how do you avoid the dreaded empty pipeline?

Well, basically there are three ways…what I call business units…of getting more business. You could call the first group the Great Unreferred Masses. That’s also known as (gulp) “Cold Marketing”. Cue the horror movie music. The other two groups are much more conducive. And not scary at all.

There’s the group you’re working with right now. And they can either refer other people to you or repeat more of their own business with you. Either way, they’re someone who already knows, likes, and trusts you.

Finally, there’s the group of people who are past clients. They might repeat business with you. And they might be referrals, friends, or others in your sphere of influence. This group is probably a lot larger than you think. And they’re much warmer than cold marketing.

Steps to build a business start like this

I’ve talked to a lot of entrepreneurs who are looking for THE steps to build a business. And there aren’t any universal steps to fit every business. Because no two businesses are exactly alike. But there are certain beginning steps which are true for everyone. For example, Fitzhugh J. Dodson was an American clinical psychologist, lecturer and educator. And he said, “First you write down your goal; your second job is to break down your goal into a series of steps, beginning with steps which are absurdly easy.”

So the steps to build a business, that I teach, are really business principles.

When I started helping business owners organize and build systems for their businesses, I knew I wanted to make things easy to understand. So, I broke it all down into three main sections with a series of steps in each one. And I knew I wanted to get things going in a way pretty much anyone could follow and latch on to.

So, the first stage is all about creating a vision for your future. And there are about 9 small steps in that stage. When you go through the steps, you’ll see how easy it is to figure out where you are and where you wanna be.

In the second stage, you’ll go through a series of small steps to develop tried and true strategies. And I show you how to use the right tools to stay on track.

Finally, in the third stage, I take you through another series of small steps to help you build your systems. When you build your business with systems, you don’t have to start from scratch every time you get a new client or hire another employee.

Who doesn’t appreciate some
Customer Appreciation?

Attaboys or attagirls. Who doesn’t love ’em, right? There’s just something about being told good things about yourself that puts you on a whole new level for the day. And that happened to me today. A professional colleague told me he’s been getting a lot out of my regular blog posts and social media posts. It lifted my spirits to hear him say it. So much that I wanted to share this short video about customer appreciation.

Customer appreciation is so cost effective.

How much money…or even time, for that matter…does it take to show someone how much you appreciate them. I mean, that video of me talking about it is only a minute long. So, I’m guessing the time investment to tell someone you appreciate them is only a few seconds. And the financial investment is ZERO. But the returns can be huge.

Compare the money you make from a one-time customer to the money you make from a lifetime customer. Basically there IS no comparison. Of course, you’ll make so much more by keeping customers around. So why would anyone miss the opportunity to show some appreciation? And guess what?

Looking for a “business school near me”?

Before I go any further, let me say I’m not the director, owner, or manager of a business school. But I’ve noticed a significant number of searches for the term “business school near me”. And I think I can help save you some time AND money. Especially if you want to pursue your dreams sooner rather than later.

I searched for a business school near me, and…

…the top results were, shall we say, not all that helpful. In fact, the first page results were almost all college and university websites. And the top three Google maps results were a college page, a cannibas business website, and a business administration link. On the college links you’ll find content saying things like “It can also be an important step toward a bachelor’s degree.” And “Through career-oriented courses, these programs help students build the skills and industry background information to qualify for entry-level jobs in a specialty field.”

Entry level jobs?! Seriously?

College can be an enormous investment of your time and money. And to think it could lead to an entry-level job in a specialty field is disturbing to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying all college is bad. But for many entrepreneurial people (like you) it’s just not necessary. Particularly since almost anyone has access to vast resources online.
