Big shoes to fill? No problem

Business and referrals should go steady

When you provide products, services, or information for your customers, clients, and audience, do they tell others? Are they saying good things behind your back? Because business and referrals need each other. At least if you want to build your business better, faster, and without spending all your profits on advertising. Here’s an example of what I mean…

See? Business and referrals can happen or not happen depending on your moves.

Just because I’m a business coach doesn’t mean I’m not also a typical consumer. I’m like everybody else. I need a roof over my head. Plumbing and electric that works. A smooth running car. Groceries.

And all of those are place where I shop. You do, too. Right? And when you spend your hard-earned money, you hope for (maybe even expect) products, services, and information. But even more than that, you hope to interact with someone who at least seems to be there because they want to help you.

That’s not too much to ask is it?

Talking to yourself again?

 “Relentless, repetitive self talk is what changes our self image.”  ~Denis E. Waitley When you’re talking to yourself (everybody does it) what do you hear? Because it’s so important for your brain to hear good things. Your health and your business depend on it.

It’s human nature to go to the dark side, when you’re not making a conscious effort to control your thoughts. Especially those thoughts about yourself. And, just like everybody else, you’ve had to deal with those little voices in your head. Those voices making you doubt yourself. Or the ones running you down about some mistake you made. Maybe you’ve even experienced a knock-down-drag-out parade of negativity. Yeah, I know how it is. And I’ve been there more than once.

But anytime you find yourself there, take back control as soon as possible. And tell those voices to pipe down. You wouldn’t take that sort of talk from someone else, would you? So, why would you tolerate it coming from you?

Talking to yourself again? Be sure to say something good.

Here’s the hard truth about talking to yourself.

Maybe you need to hear it. Maybe not. But the truth is…people are attracted to confident people. Not people who are full of self-doubt or negativity. And in business, you need other people. So, you need to be able to convey confidence and certainty.

If you’re not there right now, take a few minutes each morning to remind yourself of your abilities and your blessings. Even if you don’t believe it to begin with, do it anyway. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your confidence can build, when you focus on the “Yes I Can” voice.

Working without a plan is not a good plan

A client of mine, Alan, left me a great review on Google. He mentioned how failure is definitely an option for businesses working without a plan. But I don’t want to tell you everything he said. Because I copied it so I could paste here for you to read.

Alan went from working without a plan to a professional, organized system…

“We first started our business only doing computer repair. Shortly thereafter, we were asked to do some other tech stuff like installing security cameras and wired networking in residences and small businesses. We rapidly realized that our business was expanding faster than we could keep up AND we had no real idea of how to manage and run this growing entity.

I attended a networking group of business professionals and met Ronda. After meeting with Ronda for a consultation, we decided it was time to get help. We had no idea of what a business coach was. For 12 months, we met on a regular basis to discuss, plan and execute our ideas. She took us from an empty 3 ring binder to a binder full of business processes, plans and training that we can use to continue with our growth.

We began to understand, very quickly, that running a business is not as easy as it seems to be. But, if you spend the time with Ronda to develop a plan on how you want your business to run, you will see your work at the end of the 12 months come to fruition and you know have a plan that you can take and grow with.

I learned really fast that this “development” is almost, if not, more important than actually doing “jobs” to bring in money. Why? Because anyone can go out and perform labor. To make a business successful, it requires a whole lot of labor back in the office. Without this plan, it’s just mass confusion and no organization.

Create customer lists, and keep track of customer jobs. Create newsletter for our customers and how to communicate with them more effectively. Our business has now taken the next step in its evolution.

It’s a simple concept. But not always so easy to live by. Right? After all, what good could a bad relationship ever do for you? And the same is true for business relationships. So, how, where, or why do things go wrong? Well, as far as personal relationships, we’re all different, so I can’t really help you there. But I’ve got some proven answers for the bad business relationships…

Better to be single than in a bad relationship

In your business, a bad relationship might actually start with you.

Uh-oh. I might’ve just hit a nerve and sent some people packin’. But I stand by the point. If you’re not clear with yourself about your core values…or if you’re willing to compromise them, you’re practically asking for trouble. And I get it. I’m sure you wanna be liked and connected. Because the thought of being alone, in the mean ol’ business world, is scary.

So, you look for someone, practically anyone who’s breathing, to fill a position. Because you need the help to grow. But the trouble is, it’s a position you haven’t clearly defined. I’m talking about roles and responsibilities. Or maybe you did clearly define the position, but then you compromised just so you could hire somebody faster. Sorry to have to be the one to tell you this, but you’re almost asking for a bad relationship.

But you can avoid most problems by sticking with your vision, mission, and values.

Hire someone who fits your business culture. Someone who can completely handle the job you hire them to do. Here’s a simple checklist of three steps to keep in mind as you do…

Core strength workout
No sit-ups required

This past week, in a client meeting, we were going over the part of my course I call “Clarity of Purpose.” The reason it came up is because my client kept asking how and why questions.
